Usual adult dose

Usual adult dose: 40 to 125 mg after meals and at bedtime when needed, up to 4 times a day. Babies with wind: drops before feeds as directed on the pack — ask your pharmacist.

Your doctor may give you a different dose. Children's doses depend on weight.

Side effects

Common

rare; mild nausea or loose stools

Serious — get help

Stop taking it and see a doctor straight away if you notice:

severe allergic reaction (rare)

Do not take it, or take care, if

Bowel blockage
Severe or lasting stomach pain, vomiting or blood in stool needs a doctor
A baby with wind who also has fever, vomiting or poor feeding needs a doctor

Levothyroxine
Simeticone may reduce levothyroxine absorption; take them at least 4 hours apart.

Pregnancy

Category C

A risk to the baby cannot be ruled out. Use only if your doctor says the benefit is greater than the risk.
